Photographers who would like to learn more about HDR techniques can now take advantage of a new information and video training resource just launced, HDRPhotographypro.com. Enthusiasts can take advantage of everything from software promo codes to free online tutorials designed to help people learn how to make high dynamic range photos.

Including video examples using the cutting edge HDR processing software Photomatix, HDRPhotographyPro.com provides step-by-step tutorials revealing professional secrets on subjects ranging from taking the shot to processing the images quickly and easily. An excellent entry point for both hobbyists and pros looking to hone their skills, to find out more: click here to learn more.

"High dynamic range techniques are revolutionizing what a person can do with a camera. The technical side can be intimidating for someone new to HDR, our goal is to bridge the gap and make getting started with HDR easy," said Kevin Pryce with the website. "Now anyone can make amazing digital photos, gorgeous imagery is no longer just for professionals."

Tutorials available on the website, teach how to:
  • Use software for de-ghosting photos
  • Bracketing & Exposure Values for best results
  • Optimize workflows for processing and taking the shot
  • Step-by-step tone mapping an image with Photomatix

HDR photography is a method for creating photographic images that combine multiple exposures to create stunning effects. Basically, the photographer takes multiple shots with a range of exposure values which are blended by software to create a finished image impossible to capture using a single shot.

Increasingly sophisticated digital cameras, photo editing with Adobe Photoshop, and powerful software for processing like Photomatix from HDRSoft are a potent mix in the hands of a modern photographer. In fact, many digital cameras include auto exposure bracketing that automatically take 3 or more photos at different exposure values.

"HDR brings out the richness of shadows, highlights, details and low light environments. In the hands of a pro, or talented amateur, the visuals captured are stunning. The goal of the website is to make it easy for anyone to get started." added Mr. Pryce.

Lost Beatles & Rolling Stones Never-Before-Seen Limited Edition Photographs Issued by NFA Gallery Now Available on Amazon

Not Fade Away Gallery announced today the release, for the first time ever, of previously-unpublished, gallery-quality limited editions of 100 rare, vintage, unguarded, intimate, and iconic images of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones from the Bob Bonis Photographic Archive, 1964-1966, which are now available in limited quantity only on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/notfadeawaygallery.

This release, by NFA Gallery, breaks the mold of the traditional fine-art collector market by offering investment-quality prints at introductory prices making them more affordable to a wider spectrum of collectors and fan. Due to the small edition sizes, prints are expected to sell briskly and will increase in price and value as the editions sell down.

The Bob Bonis Archive is considered one of the most important photographic collections to have ever been discovered. Bonis had the incredible good fortune to serve as US Tour Manager for both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones from 1964 through 1966, beginning with both bands first tours of America. The images are unguarded, personal, powerful and often iconic, showing The Beatles and The Rolling Stones not only on stage, but also behind the scenes, backstage, in the recording studio, at TV and film appearances, rehearsing, at play and on the road. They document the two most important bands in rock history at the most important period in their careers coming to and conquering America, heralding the British Invasion.

Howard Kramer, curatorial director of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum said: The Bob Bonis Collection is an unmatched view into the inner circle of the most iconic groups of all time. Its illuminating, humanizing and intimate.

Due to the small edition sizes, prints are expected to sell briskly and increase in value and price as the editions sell down.

Larry Marion, curator of The Bob Bonis Archive and director of Not Fade Away Gallery, said Due to personal nature of his relationship with the then-future superstars, Bonis photographs have an honesty that is lacking in much of the body of music and celebrity-related photography. The Rolling Stones especially, who are currently celebrating their 50th anniversary as a band were, as explained in the recent documentary Crossfire Hurricane, cultivating their bad-boy image and allowed Bonis to shoot extremely provocative photographs. His photographs of both The Beatles and Stones provide us with the only real insiders view of this period in rock history. A period that changed the worlds of music, fashion, politics and social behavior forever.

Because of his extraordinary daily access to the bands, Bob Bonis had the opportunity to photograph them in situations to which no other photographers had access, and he took over 3,500 photographs of them during this period. Throughout his lifetime, Bonis, who died in 1992, resisted requests to publish his photographs. Memorabilia expert Larry Marion, along with Alex Bonis (son of the photographer), founded Not Fade Away Gallery in 2009 to unveil, showcase and preview Bob Bonis historic archive for the first time since the photographs were taken over four decades ago. That debut exhibition of 76 images from the collection garnered worldwide acclaim and attention, and led to the publication of two books - The Lost Beatles Photographs: The Bob Bonis Archive 1964-1966 and The Lost Rolling Stones Photographs. Now, for the first time ever, NFA Gallery is making strictly limited editions of gallery-quality prints of the photographs available for collectors and fans to buy through Amazon.com.

Each archival 16 x 20 print is hand-numbered, bears the embossed official Bob Bonis Archive / Not Fade Away Gallery seal, and comes with a matching numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Each photo, derived from the original negative or slide, is produced by the master printers at Duggal Visual Solutions in NYC, one of the worlds leading printers of fine art photographs for museums, galleries and photographers.

Marion added: We are thrilled to premiere the release of these extraordinary limited edition photographs in the Collectibles category on Amazon.com. This is the first time these exciting and iconic images are being released in limited edition gallery-quality prints, and the first time most fans will have ever seen these historic and often surprisingly intimate images. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors and fans to acquire superior investment-quality prints of these amazing images.

The first release of these limited edition prints from The Lost Beatles and The Lost Rolling Stones Photographs may be seen and purchased now only on Amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/notfadeawaygallery.

NEFA Awards Native Arts Grants across New England

The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) has awarded $40,000 through two initiatives of its Native Arts program, which supports Native American artists and Native-led nonprofit organizations through grantmaking and network development.

Four artists have received the first round of NEFAs Native Arts Master Apprenticeship grants, which were launched with lead funding from the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation. Grants of up to $5,000 pair experienced master artists with apprentices for up to one year, establishing focused learning experiences that nurture the continued vitality of Native art forms in New England. These grants will allow for a deeper artist/mentor relationship, said Native Arts program manager Dawn Spears (Narragansett/Choctaw). The artists benefit from the direct support, and communities benefit from the increased knowledge shared within the community.

In addition to the Master Apprenticeship grants, seven artists received Native Arts New England grants of up to $3,000. These grants support projects that involve or benefit the community, and address preservation of native arts and cultural traditions, contemporary native arts, and training and technical assistance that will support the artists work.

For more details on the grant recipients, visit http://www.nefa.org/news/nefa_awards_native_arts_grants_across_new_england

About the Program
Guided by Native staff and advisors and fueled by a commitment to increase the visibility, self-determination, and sustainability of Native artists and art forms, NEFA's Native Arts program supports projects that nurture artistic exchange, community development, youth engagement, environmental resource research and preservation, cultural preservation, and artistic innovation. The program is made possible with lead funding from the Ford Foundation's Indigenous Knowledge and Expressive Culture program, with additional funding from the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Anonymous donors. The Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens Exhibit: Artists for Peace and Common Understanding between the Peoples of the Middle East and the United States

On April 6th, 2013, celebrate the life and accomplishments of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens with live jazz and an exhibit of original art with an emphasis on Middle Eastern artists and themes. Chris loved the land and cultures and of the Middle East and North Africa; he went beyond the walls of the Embassy to learn first hand the concerns of the people. Secretary Hilary Clinton referred to him as a Jazz Diplomat, always improvising the next stage of conversation and collaboration as he made friends for the United States.

In conjunction with the exhibition will also be holding a sub-exhibit of small works of art from friends, relatives, and artists touched by Chriss story. Chris Stevens will always be remembered by his friends and family for his post cards from foreign lands. As early as age 7, he sent postcards to keep in touch and maintain relationships throughout the years. We wish to continue in the tradition of this democratic art form - anyone can enter, and all entries received will be included in this exhibition. The small works can be visual, written word (memories, poetry), or combinations. All entries must be postcard size with postage attached.

Overall the exhibition will bring together artists from around the world with the goal to create a lively, visual dialogue about peace and cultural acceptance between the United States and countries of the Middle East and North Africa, which we hope will continue to grow long after the exhibition is over.

Chris had a passion for building bridges between the peoples of the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States. In this spirit a fund has been established in his name to support his important, yet unfinished, endeavor. All proceeds from the exhibition will go toward the J. Christopher Stevens Fund (see http://www.rememberingchrisstevens.com).

Vancouver Looks Forward to Popular Chinese New Year Event, the Vancouver Spring Show

The 3rd Annual Vancouver Spring Show, taking place February 9, 2013 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, brings together celebrated international artists, directors, designers, and choreographers for a spectacular one-night show to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Artists from varying performance backgrounds such as Cirque du Soleil, "The Voice" China, and Canadian Idol, will come together in Vancouver to collaborate and form The Vancouver Spring Show. With a strong Chinese heritage, it is of no surprise that Vancouverites look forward to the Vancouver Spring Show as a popular Chinese New Year event.
While the show is held in celebration of the Chinese New Year, it is truly a multicultural celebration highlighting top performers from Canada and China, including many internationally influenced performances. The show's Founder and Director, Ms. Cherry Tao, is considered to be one of China's dancing treasures. She performed and taught dance for over 30 years and her acclaimed Peacock School of Dance graduated thousands of classically trained dancers. Tao is also the founder of Motion Artistry Dance in Vancouver; it is her internationally inspired creative vision for performing arts has secured the Spring Show as an annual 'must-see' sensation.
"With 2013 being the year when the Mayan calendar ends, the Lunar New Year is a sign of new life and new beginnings," says Shaun Cui, Producer of The Vancouver Spring Show. "Our vision this year was to bring extremely different but equally talented artists together to create a fusion of Eastern and Western performances."
This multicultural concept was the catalyst that brought together two of the most renowned choreographers in the Asian and North American dance scene, Aimin Teng and Joel Hanna, to work and collaborate with Cherry Tao, the show's Director. Aimin Teng's inspiring contemporary style drew international attention after he choreographed the 2008 Beijing Olympic's Opening and Closing Ceremonies. He then directed "Big Dance" at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Likewise, Joel Hanna is globally renowned for his performance and involvement with Riverdance. Hanna has also taught and choreographed award-winning pieces for schools and professional dance companies all over North and South America.
The Vancouver Spring Show will be MC'd by Vancouver's very own Lien Yeung, Gwen Elliot (MuchMusic, Canadian Idol, Project Runway, Miss World Canada), and Ernest Wu (renowned Mandarin/English MC). Other performers include talents such as Sons of Granville, Wang Yu Yie, Will Blunderfield, Silu Xi, Karen Pitkethly, Lucy Xu, and The Faculty.

Amongst the list of celebrities who attended included Singapore?s Beam Artistes May Wan, Choy Wan, Keagan Kang, Julian Low, Perfect 98.7FM DJ Rosalyn Lee, Thai actress and singer Yaya Ying, Malaysia?s professional dancer and choreographer Maple Loo and India?s renowned choreographer Swarupraj Medara.

As the drinks of the night, which included R?my Martin V.S.O.P., Piper Heidsieck and SKYY Vodka, flowed freely, R?my Martin Centaur Dance Showdown was kicked off by the Ringmaster of the finals, Dominic Lau, who took to the stage to introduce the six dance crews and the esteemed panel of judges.

The six competing dance crews were The Zoo Thailand (Thailand), Katoon Network (Malaysia), Team Swarup (India), KRUMPinoy (The Philippines), S.I.N.E. Crew (Vietnam) and Radikal Forze (Singapore).

The judging panel comprised of R?my Martin Celebrity Spokesperson and International Superstar Jolin Tsai, Vietnamese singer-superstar Ho Ngoc Ha, Japanese breakdance artist Katsuyuki Ishikawa, and Singaporean hip hop artist Sheikh Haikel.

The dance competition saw each dance crew performing a three-minute choreographed routine as well as a battle round where the dance crews, two at a time, pitted their dance skills and stage presence against each other.

After the dance competition rounds were completed, the highly-anticipated performance by Jolin Tsai got everyone up on their feet as they surged to the front of the stage. Ever the consummate and captivating artiste, Jolin performed four of her hit numbers, wearing a bright red tube dress and an outer-corset lighted up with her fans cheering on and singing along to her songs.

The night ended on a high note as S.I.N.E. Crew from Vietnam were crowned the winner of US$10,000 and the title of ?Asia?s Ultimate Urban Dance Crew?.

In addition to the grand title, two other awards were given out: the Centaur Spirit Award and the Audience Favorite Award. Malaysia?s Katoon Network was awarded the Centaur Spirit Award for demonstrating the most heart and passion in their performance while Singapore?s Radikal Forze took home the Audience Favorite Award which was based entirely on fans' votes through Facebook and SMS.

Presented by R?my Martin, this dance competition aims to showcase the passion, talent and ingenuity of dancers from across six countries ? Singapore, Malaysia, India, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Since August last year, R?my Martin has been staging high-profile competitions in the region in search of the most outstanding dance crews to represent their countries in the final showdown at Marina Bay Sands.

Even as the dance competition ended, the night of revelry had just begun as ticket holders were invited to stay back for the Official Centaur Dance Showdown After-Party with renowned guest deejay, DJ Andrew Chow, spinning the dance tracks.

World Renowned Nautical Photographer, Onne van der Wal Announces his 2013 Photography Workshops on the Water

Onne van der Wal has been photographing boats and the nautical world for over 25 Years and is famous for having mastered the art of this difficult medium. Despite his notoriety as one of the top marine photographers in the world, van der Wal is known also for his Workshops on the Water and his easy, accessible teaching style wherein he shares tips and tricks in small groups, helping budding photographers get great shots in the challenging marine environment. Scott Cluett, a three-time attendee of the Workshops shares: Not only is Onnes teaching informative, but he is very approachable and easy to understand. Onnes workshops foster a real learning experience with a very personal touch and small groups offer plenty of time and attention for everyone. After four successful years of teaching water based photography workshops, van der Wal announces his 2013 schedule of workshops stretching from the tropical blue waters of the Caribbean to his home waters of Narragansett Bay and Newport, RI.

Van der Wals 2013 Workshop schedule begins with the Heineken St. Maarten Regatta from February 28-March 4th. A very small group of 4-6 advanced photographers will be treated to some of the best grand prix sailboat racing offered in the Caribbean and will be positioned on a chase boat alongside Onne right on the race course to capture the action and adventure on camera. Three full days of shooting as well as evaluative time for reviewing the days work and discussing workflow round out a schedule that includes nightly concerts and parties offered by the regatta organizers.

Back in his home waters of Newport, RI, van der Wals well known Workshop on the Water series will return for Summer 2013 with two intermediate to advanced level classes scheduled aboard the beautifully restored and very stable touring lobster boat, The M/V Gansett. A workshop shooting Narragansett Bays many lighthouses and active local racing scene is scheduled for July 24th for up to 15 photographers, as well as a fall workshop on Saturday September 28th shooting the picturesque 12 Metre North American Championships. Workshops are four hours and include a lobster roll dinner, snacks and cocktails. Onne provides live commentary on a loudspeaker and many excellent photo ops while directing the Captain of the Gansett to his preferred angles, getting close to the action and providing all on board with a unique vantage point. Keeping the groups small ensures personal instruction from Onne on how to meter, frame and set up the shots using your own equipment. He also lends out his Canon L series lenses to those shooting with Canon bodies.

As a six year veteran of the esteemed Canon Explorer of Light program, van der Wal is encouraged to lecture and teach as much as possible and it is a part of the job as Explorer that van der Wal finds most rewarding; Im excited to offer our very well received workshops to as many photographers as possible. Its a part of my job that is very enjoyable: sharing my knowledge, my gear and my enthusiasm for shooting on the water.
