Workshop Helps Young Performers Approach Auditions with Confidence and Style

The Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts (CCTA) will offer a Musical Theater Audition Intensive on Monday, February 18, 2013 form 9am-3pm in Columbia, MD. The full-day workshop, which falls on President's Day, is designed to help young performers in grades 5 - 9 develop techniques and strategies for both Dance and Vocal auditions. Students will work with instructors Ric Ryder (Vocals) and Lisa Yanguas (Dance) to learn how to play to their strengths with a variety of dance forms and vocal styles.

Meet the instructors
RIC RYDER is a native of Columbia and alum of CCTA! He has worked with and been inspired by some of the finest musical directors, conductors and composers: Paul Bogaev, David Chase, Eddie Robinson, Carole King, Tom OHorgan, Gerry Sternback and Joe Baker among others. Broadway credits include The Music Man (Jacey Squires), Grease! (Doody), Blood Brothers (Eddie) and Starmites (Starmite). He has appeared off-Broadway in Chess, The Jazz Singer and Gifts of the Magi. Ric appears locally as well as in New York giving both private and public concerts. Reviewers have called him a potent singer with a sweet brassy voice. Ric studied on scholarship in the College Preparatory Program , Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and received a BA in Voice Performance from University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ric has taught at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, as well as privately in both Manhattan and here in Columbia. He is currently a guest instructor for CCTA.

LISA YANGUAS has been dancing since the age of three and has studied ballet, tap, jazz, modern, ballroom, choreography, and dance for musical thea-ter. She performed and studied with Broadway and movie legend Gregory Hines during his lifetime and has had the good fortune to study with other dance greats to include: Brenda Buffalino, Honi Coles, Harold Nicholas (of the Nicholas Brothers), and Savion Glover. She has been performing, teaching, and choreographing in Maryland and Howard County for over 25 years. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Artistic Review Panel and mem-ber of the dance panel for the Howard County Arts Council.
