Zombie Logic Press, one of the Midwest's oldest independent literary presses, has several announcements for National Poetry Month.

On March 5th and 6th, Zombie Logic Press editor and publisher will be participating in Spring Art Scene, displaying a series of pieces titled "Concordant Collisions," which he describes as a collaboration of his poetry and the art of co-creator Jenny Mathews. Each piece is a novel and surprising combination of art and the written word.

Guests will be able to meet and greet Mathews and Vaultonburg and buy signed copies of their children's book, The Toughskin Rhinoceros Wrangler Company at the exhibit.

Vaultonburg, considered one of the most notable Outsider and Outlaw poets, is also working on a project for National Poetry Month in conjunction with The Rock River Times archiving and promoting the history of contemporary poetry in Rockford, Illinois and along the Rock River Trail. A daring face-off between two artists: Legendary saxophonist Fred Ho is honored in bronze by New York Sculptor Leah Poller

Harlem sculptor Leah Poller first heard Fred Ho in his performance of the Cal Massey magnus opus symphony The Black Liberation Movement Suite, presented in its entirety for the first time in jazz history at the 2012 inauguration of Marcus Samuelssons Red Rooster Supper Club Ginnys. The music was soul-rendering, and the performance by baritone saxophonist Fred Ho was mesmerizing, declares Poller. The sheer bravado, the invention and the scope of this performance shook me to the roots, and I knew I had to meet Ho as a fellow artist seeking to break barriers of preconception of what something should be. Ho pushed the envelope, something I could relate to in my own work.

Their encounter, facilitated by Benjamin Barson, Entertainment Manager for Ginnys, took place a week later in a Harlem church where Ho once again performed a revolutionary selection of his own composition. I thought Fred would dig Leah because of her zealous allegiance to all things creative, funky and transgressive, states Barson. Poller is a woman who has mastered herself as well as her own craft; I knew Fred would dig those qualities and trust her hands and heart to be a vessel for his Apollonian incarnation. And I thought Leah would love Fred because of his passion, his commitment to justice, his love of life (even in the face of death) and his insurgent genius that leaves no soul untouched adds Barson.

Ho and Poller began the conversation that was to become Double Dare a tribute to Fred Ho, a bronze portrait immortalizing the legendary musician, whose 7 year battle with cancer is entering its final stages. As someone self conscious about my legacy due to the reality of stage 4b metastatic cancer, I have been thrilled with Leahs imagination and desire to imbue and radiate my spirit and energy as the subject of her sculpture, declares Ho.

Poller sculpted Ho in an accelerated, intense period involving heart to heart conversations, work sessions, and culinary breaks that have resulted in an artistic collaboration of the highest order. Artnews contributing editor Anne Landi offers Double Dare is arguably her finest work to date. Its also an exemplary demonstration of Pollers methods and magic.

Pollers tribute to Ho as well as a selection of her portraits will be presented at the Knox Gallery of Harlem in the exhibition Mirrors of the Soul (April 11 May 11 2013). In addition to the unveiling of Hos portrait, the gallery will be hosting a series of musical events, and a preview of the documentary Diary of the Dragon: the (R)eVolution of Fred Ho, by the Black Waxx T Team.

Art critic Siba Kumar Das, upon seeing Pollers sculpture of Ho said, Poller creates a continuum of figurative communication, just as Bodhisattva images do, by offering to the viewer an incarnation of compassion that captures the playful and joyful human solidarity that drives Hos music.

Knox Gallery, known for its support of excellence, courage and clarity, is publishing a catalog of Pollers portraits entitled Mirrors of the Soul, to accompany the exhibition, heralding in a new age for figurative sculpture with Pollers daring psychologically driven portraits. Perhaps the Knox Gallery has accepted to a Triple Dare in this powerful moment in both art and music.

Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk Features Appalachian Trail

The second annual Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk, scheduled for April 27 to 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature photos of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's (ATC) Visitor Center on 799 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, WV. The ATC will feature photos from photographer Ron Roman, including his iconic image, "Appalachian Trail Mist", featured on the cover of The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail.

Roman is a 1987 A.T. thru-hiker who took his inspiration on the Trail to capture the depth and mystery of the pristine landscape along the A.T. His photos focus on the light, vapor, color, and movement of the A.T. His work has been published in numerous publications such as National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Backpacker, Delta Sky, and the Discovery Channel Guidebook Series.

In 2010, Roman captured the iconic photo, "Appalachian Trail Mist", on the A.T.'s Tennessee and North Carolina border, which was later featured on the cover of the 2012 book, The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail. Visitors will have opportunity to meet this artist, view his work, and purchase this renowned photo, with ten percent of the gross sales donated back to the ATC.

"The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is excited to host Ron Roman during the second Annual Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk," stated Javier Folgar, Director of Marketing and Communications of the ATC. "His photos capture the Appalachian Trail in its purest form, evoking the public's imagination."

This photo gallery is part of the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk. This event will feature artwork in the local businesses from Bolivar to the lower town in Harpers Ferry. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk along the tree-lined streets, take in historic views, and experience the local art and history of these two communities. This is a self-guided tour.

Other local businesses participating at this event include the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library, Teahorse B&B/Hostel, The Gilded Flea, Hill Top House, The Woman's Club, Harpers Ferry Wine & Gourmet, The Vintage Lady, The Village Shop, The Towns Inn, Steam at Harpers Ferry, Art Shack Baby, Tenfold Fair Trade, Mary Adams, Scoops, Westwind Potters, True Treats, and the Harpers Ferry National Park Bookshop.

Bolivar and Harpers Ferry are both a part of the A.T. Community program. This program is designed to recognize communities that promote and protect the Appalachian Trail. Towns, counties, and communities along the A.T.'s corridor are considered assets by hikers and many of these towns act as good friends and neighbors to the Trail. The program serves to assist communities with sustainable economic development through tourism and outdoor recreation, while preserving and protecting the A.T.

PhotoTour DC Creates Cherry Blossom Photo Guide for Washington, DC Visitors and Photographers

PhotoTour DC has produced a Cherry Blossom Photo Guide to help photographers take better pictures of Cherry Blossom trees during the four-week National Cherry Blossom Festival celebration.

"Many photographers love the beauty of Cherry Blossoms but are frustrated when their photos don't reflect what they try to capture," says Lynford Morton, PhotoTour DC founder and photography coach. "I created this guide to take away some of the guess work for Washington, DC visitors, as well as photography beginners to enthusiasts."

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is the nation's greatest springtime celebration, commemorating the 101st anniversary of the gift of trees from Tokyo to Washington, DC. The 2013 festival began on the first day of spring, March 20, and continues through April 14, 2013.

The Cherry Blossom Photo Guide is a free ebook designed to help visitors and photographers decide the best times to photograph the Cherry Blossoms, pack the right photographic equipment, take great pictures, and share them with the community of other photographers.

PhotoTour DC also conducts daily travel photography workshops around the Tidal Basin during the Cherry Blossom Festival. The photo tours are designed for beginners to enthusiasts who want personal instruction from a professional photographer in learning their cameras and taking great pictures.

"The Cherry Blossom Photo Guide and photo tours are based on my 20 years photographing Washington, DC and the thousands of people I have coached around the city's picturesque locations," says Morton. "Because it is in the convenient electronic format, the guide is always available to photographers on their smart phones and tablets."

Download the Cherry Blossom Photo Guide at www.cherryblossomphotoguide.com.

William Marc Zanghi - LOST HIGHWAY, solo show curated by Lorenzo Bruni

"Lost Highway", the new solo show by William Marc Zanghi, Italian-American artist considered one of the most interesting exponents of contemporary art, will open on Thursday, April 18th , at 7.00 p.m., RizzutoArte Gallery in Palermo ( Italy).
The project, designed specifically for the gallery of Palermo, includes new large paintings, a sculptural work in polyurethane foam and a series of landscapes seen from "bird's eye" realized for the first time on paper. These new works comprise an innovative project of great artistic quality and visual power. The exhibition, curated by the critic Lorenzo Bruni, will be open until May 25th, from Thursday to Saturday.
The title "Lost Highway" refers to David Lynchs film of 1997, that anticipated many issues that were presented at the ontological level later about the relationship between physical and mental identity. The association with this film is also due to Lynch's predilection to portray the surreal aspects in everyday life, an attitude that William Marc Zanghi has always tried to bring out in his landscapes.
The artistic investigation of William Marc Zanghi is in fact characterized by the ability to combine reality with imagination, in order to create surreal landscapes (forests, rivers and marshes, but also beaches, acid and metaphysical islands, inhabited by animals, enigmatic characters and unusual creatures) that are placed on the boundary between a strong dimension of dream and an obsession with the realistic details, in idyllic visions and disturbing atmospheres. These scenes between the everyday and the unexpected are characterized by a range of altered colors and gloss paints which enhance the hallucinatory state, where he combine his aspects - mental and physical - all aimed at expressing the complexity of the human soul.
"Lost Highway" is a turning point in the artistic development of William Marc Zanghi. Dots of color that pile up or monstrous heads that come out in place of flowers are the elements that in recent years the artist has used to stop the plot of the figuration that himself has staged.
In the new production, the artist exalts some of the styling elements which have disoriented the viewer inside of his earlier pictures, and he specifically queries himself about the origin of these elements. The new works, in fact, have characters like strange creatures with human features, bizarre anthropomorphic heads that inexplicably are in territories on the verge between land and water. What strongly emerges is the need - primarily of the artist - to explain the nature (organic-inorganic) and the origin (autochthonous-allochthonous) of these heads. In this sense, then, these elements appear - in a more innovative dimension between allegory and presentation - as artefacts that the artist finds in the territory of his own painting, and he wants to clarify their origin. Thus - as a researcher, as a compiler of maps - he needs to observe, collect, analyze and present these formal elements "emerging" in his work.
In the new paintings, forests and houses give way to the representation of new islands that, in this case however, do not evoke a place of exile, but a place bubbling with new energy. The formal challenge to represent territories of land and water, has led the artist to use for the first time the paper as new support. The anthropomorphic sculptures in improbable colors - that have nothing to do with the theme of the grotesque - deal with the idea of self-irony that may have the objects produced / used by man and observed by other men. This is confirmed by the choice of the artist of presenting them not as installation or three-dimensional painting, but as artifacts or museum objects in showcases or on metal pedestals, which remind us of the "display" of the sixties. Thus, these heads - that look at us or that can be looked upon by us - raise the question in which context or place can they be put, or from which strange world they emerged.
In this context, Zanghi's new production reveals a profound critique of pictorial dimension understood as pure decoration, and just this approach gives a new meaning to his work. The artworks on show at RizzutoArte Gallery, for both the new issues and the variety of painting mediums used, allow a complete re-reading and relocation of the artist.

Big Brands Like Whirlpool, ClosetMaid and Jenn-Air Switch from Traditional Photography to 3D Product Images

Is digital photography now considered old school in the world of product imaging? Increasingly, big brands like Whirlpool, Stanley Black & Decker and IKEA are ditching the camera relying, instead, on computer-generated 3D product images to present their latest product launches.

3D images showcase products in photorealistic environments that can be changed and manipulated instantly. This means brands can feature their product in virtually any dcor, location, lifestyle or setting all without having to build a set, source product or hire a photographer.

Because 3D costs less both in dollars and logistical headaches its catching on with marketers in multiple industries, from consumer products to training to home building.

Linda Garman of Basco, a manufacturer of luxury shower enclosures, explains, With traditional photography, there was always a risk of being disappointed with the end result. Now, with 3D, if were wrong about a color or texture, we can change it. We arent stuck having our time and resources wasted.

Building a traditional set costs upwards of $5,000 to $20,000 and takes weeks to create. 3D set shots, on the other hand, start at around $1,000 and take just days. Eleventh-hour changes that would normally send production teams and budgets into a tailspin are simplified in the controlled 3D environment.

Garman adds, Our 3D set shots are far more dynamic than anything we could have built in a set or in a homeand ended up costing 25% of what we would have spent on traditional photography.

But, do 3D images cut quality along with cost? Jenn-Airs Associate Marketing Manager, Marci Wark, admits she was skeptical at first, The number one priority for our visuals is that they portray the brand as luxury and super-premium. When I saw samples, I realized that Id be happy to have 3D set shots represent my brand.

In 2013, more online and print catalogs will feature 3D images. IKEA says it plans to double its use of 3D images to streamline the production process and keep prices down.

Digital photos just dont make sense for every project, says Mike Lozicki, President and CEO of MediaLab, a 3D agency thats been working with brands such as Whirlpool, ClosetMaid and Stanley Black & Decker for more than seven years. Most companies can easily replace 60% of their shots with photorealistic 3D images, reserving intensive photo sessions for key hero shots.

Many brands also choose 3D images because they can show products from virtually every angle, including cross-sectional views, exploded views and 360 degree product spinners views that are simply impossible to capture with a camera. Lozicki states, The lens has limits. Whereas 3D has virtually none.

Marketers at ClosetMaid agree. We constantly need to inspire customers with new organization and storage ideas, explains Valerie Cavallaro, Director of eMarketing. With traditional photos, we dont have the ability for do-overs or quick tweaks for new needs. But, 3D images give us control over the final outcome there really is no comparison.

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia Presents Fall of the Berlin Wall Featuring Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Sunday, April 7 in Verizon Hall

Under the able baton of Conductor Laureate Ignat Solzhenitsyn, we journey to a historic moment in time with a program that commemorates the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989, leading to Germany's reunification. Performed in collaboration with a solo exhibition of photographs by James B. Abbott at the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, The Fall: A Photographic Portrait of Berlin and the Fall of the Berlin Wall, Abbott collaborates with Jorge Cousineau to present a multi-sensory concert experience.

A founding resident company of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Chamber Orchestra's program features vocals by soprano Katie Van Kooten, mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson, tenor Norman Reinhardt, and bass-baritone Sam Handley, along with the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia.

The April 7 2:30 p.m. concert will be performed in the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall. Tickets for this Chamber Orchestra performance are $24 to $81.

Aiming to memorialize one of the defining events in 20th-century history, Maestro Solzhenitsyn devised a program with a connection to the idea of freedom that he explains as follows:

The first work on the program, by Meine, represents, if you will, a yearning for freedom. The second, by Smirnov, expresses mourning for those who perished never having tasted it. And the third, Beethoven's 9th, completes the arch by celebrating the joy and power of freedom and brotherhood.

Klaus Meine | Wind of Change (Orchestrated by Daniel Capelletti)
Wind of Change was originally performed by the German rock band Scorpions, written by their lead vocalist Klaus Meine just three months prior to the fall. When the wall finally crumbled, the messages of peace and yearning for freedom emanated with the public, and Wind of Change became the unofficial anthem of the historic event. The song became a hit single in 1991, topping charts in Germany, hitting No. 4 in the United States, and reaching No. 2 in the United Kingdom. Two decades later, it remains Germany's 10th best-selling single of all time.

Mikhail Dmitrievich Smirnov | Epitaph for the Victims of Communism
Described by Maestro Solzhenitsyn as "slow and haunting," Smirnov's piece focuses on the unhappy past, and exerts a near-hypnotic effect with its frequent underpinning of the melodic line and remorseless repeated notes. The piece is sometimes also called Epitaph for the Victims of Repression. While in English "repression" has no specific connotation, in contemporary Russian, "victims of repression" has one and only meaning, and that is "victims of Communism."

Ludwig van Beethoven | Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, "Choral"
Both in length and musicians used, Symphony No. 9 is Beethoven's largest symphony. Beethoven had plans for this work as early as 1811, even before composing his Seventh and Eighth Symphony. His long-withstanding idea to make a musical setting for Friedrich Schiller's poem, Ode to Joy, was also incorporated, with Beethoven completing the score in February 1824. On Christmas Day 1989 in Berlin, famous composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein conducted Symphony No. 9 in celebration of the fall of the wall, and as a sign of freedom. He even replaced the word "Joy" with "Freedom" in the chorus and performed it with individuals of diverse nationalities from orchestras and choirs across the globe.

Conductor Laureate Ignat Solzhenitsyn is recognized as one of today's most gifted artists, and enjoys an active career as both conductor and pianist. His lyrical and poignant interpretations have won him critical acclaim throughout the world. Maestro Solzhenitsyn has partnered with world-renowned soloists, including Gary Graffman, Leila Josefowicz, Garrick Ohlsson, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Recent concerto performances have included appearances with the Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, London and Paris Symphony Orchestras. Maestro Solzhenitsyn is a winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, serves on the piano faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music, and has been featured on many radio and television specials, including CBS Sunday Morning, and ABC's Nightline.

Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia is one of this country's oldest choruses, and performs choral music to create a shared transcendent experience among its singers and audiences. Through the excellence of its adventurous performances, Mendelssohn Club advances the development of choral music as an art form.

Friday Conversations at the Philadelphia Art Alliance will take place on April 5 at 6:30 PM with Chamber Orchestra Executive Director Peter H. Gistelinck, where he will present the orchestra's 2013-2014 concert season. Complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Entry is $5, or free to Chamber Orchestra subscribers and Art Alliance members. Friday Conversations is also broadcast live on brandywineradio.com. The Philadelphia Art Alliance is located at 251 South 18th Street, Philadelphia. For information, call 215.545.4302 or visit philartalliance.org.

Canon U.S.A. Announces Worlds Smallest And Lightest DSLR Camera

New EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR Camera Fuses Advanced Image Quality and Features into an Ultra-Portable Body

MELVILLE, N.Y. Continuing the quest to deliver superb product innovations, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the worlds smallest and lightest DSLR* camera: the EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR Camera. It features a newly developed 18.0-megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and high-performance DIGIC 5 Image Processor for exceptional image quality and speed. With its combination of lightweight size, ease of use and outstanding image quality, the EOS Rebel SL1 is perfect for users looking for the ideal camera to bring sightseeing on vacation or to capture the everyday.

"The EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR Camera represents a new era in DSLR versatility: ultra-portable, full-featured DSLR cameras" said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. "The EOS Rebel SL1 combines the high speed, high image quality and expanded shooting range of a DSLR camera, with the easy and fun usability of a point-and-shoot camera"
Advanced Image Quality in a Compact Body

As the worlds smallest and lightest DSLR, the new camera body is 4.6" (w) x 3.57" (h) x 2.74" (d), and weighs only 14.36 oz.** In comparison, the EOS Rebel SL1 is approximately 25 percent smaller and 28 percent lighter than the EOS Rebel T4i digital camera.
EOS Rebel SL1 is approximately 25 percent smaller and 28 percent lighter than the EOS Rebel T4i digital camera.

The EOS Rebel SL1 features an 18 megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor that performs exceptionally well in both bright and dimly lit shooting environments with an ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to H: 25600) for photos and ISO-6400 (expandable to H: 12800) for video. Canons DIGIC 5 Image Processor technology allows for exceptional image quality and shooting speed up to four frames per second (fps).

The camera includes a new nine-point center cross-type autofocus (AF) system to help achieve fast, sharp focus. The new AF system also includes a new Hybrid CMOS AF II sensor, which provides a wider focus area when shooting photos or video in Live View mode, and a continuous AF speed thats increased from previous EOS models.

To help capture video with ease, the EOS Rebel SL1 features Canons Movie Servo AF, which provides continuous AF tracking of moving subjects. When shooting video with one of Canons new STM lenses, such as the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (available in the standard lens kit), Movie Servo AF takes advantage of the lens stepping motor for smooth and quiet continuous AF. The camera is capable of Full HD shooting in a number of recording sizes and frame rates, and enables easy manual control of exposure, focus and Live View features. The combination of Canons new Hybrid CMOS AF system II and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is ideal for shooting video helping to ensure only the sounds of the scene are recorded.

Allowing for clear and easy viewing even in bright environments, the Touch Screen three inch Clear View LCD monitor II provides a rich and expansive display as well as providing intuitive touch panel operation. Two finger touch gestures (multi-touch) can be easily used for zooming or changing images, accessing menu and quick control settings, and activating focus point and shutter release while shooting.
Creativity at your Fingertips

The EOS Rebel SL1 encourages users to explore their creative side with a wide array of features for convenience and simple shooting. The EOS Rebel SL1 is equipped with Scene Intelligent Auto Mode, an advanced function that detects faces, colors, brightness, movement, contrast, distance and other factors and automatically adjusts and selects the exposure method needed. The results are photos with a wide dynamic range, ideal for users without advanced photography knowledge or experience.

Users can also access advanced imaging features like the new Effect Shot mode, which automatically creates two different shots, one with a selected creative filter and one without. In addition, Creative Filters and Background Blur Simulation can now be displayed in real time during Live View shooting. Editing photos is also a snap with the Rebel SL1s in-camera editing and cropping functionality. This feature allows users to view and crop the image using the cameras LCD touch screen and save the edited version as a separate file.

For those who would like to take beautiful photos with ease, the EOS Rebel SL1 offers a variety of scene modes to explore. New special scene modes include Kids, Food and Candlelight, giving users advanced presets to help ensure the best possible photos even under difficult shooting conditions.
Pricing and Availability

The new EOS Rebel SL1 Digital SLR Camera is scheduled to be available in April for an estimated retail price of $649.99 for the body alone or $799.99 bundled with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens.

CCG Models Helps Rutgers Models Gain Recognition As Individuals

How often do you come across a beautiful image featuring a model smiling and promoting a product? Now how often does that image tell you anything about the model? Sure it might be good for a portfolio or the occasional recognition, but unlike other forms of media (music, writing, acting) the model is often not named, credited, or referenced in any personal or noticeable way. Sure there are celebrity endorsements, but what about the vast majority of models just trying to make a name for themselves?

CCG Models is working with 11 different models who all attend Rutgers University to help them gain recognition as individuals. The focus is on creating a platform for each participant to promote themselves and their interests to as wide of an audience as possible. The interests of the participants range from athletes and actresses to dancers and singers. Some of the models are inexperienced and others, like cover model Susan Coffey, are hardened veterans, but they all share an interest in the field of modeling.

There are many models in the world, millions in fact. Getting widespread recognition for your work in any entertainment field is hard, modeling is among the hardest. CCG Models is giving their models a leg-up by affording them the opportunity to appear in print (something hard for most models to achieve) to a wide but unified market; their peers in the Rutgers community and beyond. Each model has fans, friends, and followers and by joining together in a unified project they can help each other gain more attention while also helping themselves. However, unlike a typical printed project they might appear in, this project is entirely centered around getting to know the models themselves.

Highlights of the participating models include Susan Coffey, who has already amassed a following of over 111,000 fans on Facebook as well many subscribers to her Deviant Art page. In August 2012 she received the cover as well as a full feature in Maxim en Espa?ol.

Adrienne Lauren is a former Rutgers student whose television and modeling credits include appearing in Step Up 3D, White Collar, Gossip Girl, Law & Order, Person of Interest, NJ Fashion & Beauty Week for Dolce Vita and 10 on Top: Most Stylish Stars for MTV.

Heather Dorian, a current Rutgers student whose television and modeling credits include appearing in Grown Ups 2, Days of Our Lives, Six Flags Fright Fest commercials, Spencer's Gifts, Jessica Simpson Shoes and Undergirl.com

Carolyn Marie Ferraro is currently in the BFA dance program at Mason Gross School of the Arts while simultaneously juggling a full-fledged music career and modeling appearances. Spending hours in the studio, Carolyn has released numerous songs first with her pop group The Dollz and now as an independent artist. Her most recent single "Wake Up" is available for download on iTunes.

All of the participants that CCG Models works with, Susan, Adrienne, Heather, Carolyn and everyone else, have interests ranging beyond simply modeling. CCG Models creates an opportunity for models by making their individual identity the main focus and not using them as props for the purpose of some other end. The #1 goal is to create something that everyone is happy with and that everyone can gain maximum benefit from.

Shard in Line for London Design Oscar

Billed as 'the Oscars of the design world', the Designs of the Year awards showcase the most innovative and imaginable designs from around the world over the past year - and London's new tallest skyscraper is one of a handful of shortlisted works from the capital. Given its instant impact on London's skyline, Renzo Piano's 310-metre-tall glass tower will be amongst the favourites to take the overall prize, which last year was won by the London 2012 Olympic Torch, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.

The awards span seven categories - Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Transport and Product - with category winners and the overall winner decided by a jury and announced to the public on 17th April 2013. Other London-based works shortlisted include A Room For London - a temporary structure in the shape of a boat and perched atop the Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall - Clapham Library, Exhibition Road, the Barbican's Bauhaus: Art As Life exhibition and Jacqueline Durran's Anna Karenina Costumes at Ham House. An exhibition at the Design Museum showcases the numerous works, objects and concepts in line for the award and runs from 20th March to 7th July 2013.

Featuring Europe's highest viewing platform and the soon-to-open 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, The Shard was officially unveiled last summer with a laser light show accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The 95-storey 'vertical city' towers above London Bridge train station and is the stand-out entry in the Architecture category of the awards. Also in the Architecture category is the stunning Studio Egret West-designed new Clapham Library complex and A Room For London, designed by David Kohn Architects in collaboration with the artist Fiona Banner.

Prolonged throughout 2013 due to its overwhelming possibility, the ship-shaped structure is a one-bedroom installation with a programme of writing, performance and music. The songwriter Imogen Heap has performed a new song written in the boat, The English Patient author Michael Ondaatje has recorded a podcast, while members of the public can enter a competition to win a night in the room. Visitors arriving from outside London who fail to snare a night in A Room For London can conveniently book alternative accommodation on LondonTown.com, where there's a huge selection of cheap London hotels and hotels to suit all budgets.

The wonderful costumes worm by the British actors Keira Knightley and Jude Law in Joe Wright's screenplay adaptation of Anna Karenina have been shortlisted for the award in the Fashion category. A selection of gowns, under garments and military attire designed by Jacqueline Durran for the film are currently on display in the Long Gallery of Ham House, where key scenes of the Hollywood movie were shot. The Anna Karenina Costume Exhibition runs until 4th April 2013.

Also nominated for the award are last year's Bauhaus: Art As Life exhibition at the Barbican, in the Graphics category, and the revamped Exhibition Road shared space scheme, for Transport. All shortlisted works from London and all over the world can be viewed this spring at the Designs of the Year 2013 exhibition at the acclaimed Design Museum, which has two floors showcasing contemporary design in all forms on the banks of the Thames in the shadow of Tower Bridge.

Scottsdale Community College and U.S. Holocaust Museum Present "Genocide Awareness Week"

An unprecedented week of events highlighting genocide and the legacy of such atrocities, from Germany and Armenia to Rwanda/Burundi, Bosnia and Darfur, will be presented at Scottsdale Community College April 8-13, 2013.

The SCC Honors Program in cooperation with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum presents "Genocide Awareness Week: Understand, Act and Protect" as part of Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. All events and exhibits are free and open to the public.

The series of educational events include discussions with genocide survivors, such as Holocaust survivor Otto Schimmel. He will speak during the opening evening event on Monday, April 8, along with Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane.

Cindy McCain, wife of U.S. Sen. John McCain, also will discuss her experiences in the Congo in an afternoon session.

Notable scholars scheduled to speak include Dr. Richard Hovannisian, a UCLA professor and expert on the Armenian genocide, and Dr. Esad Boskailo, M.D., a University of Arizona professor and author who survived Bosnian concentration camps.

Maximilian Lerner, a refugee from Austria who escaped through France and Portugal to the U.S. and returned to Europe during the war as a spy, will speak on Thursday, April 11. He penned two novels based on his experiences.

Art exhibits, a documentary premiere, a movie screening and two standing exhibits will be featured as well. Authors will be available to sign their books, which will be available for purchase in the SCC Bookstore.

The two standing exhibits, Camp Darfur and the One Million Bones Project, will offer interactive displays and information throughout the week. Camp Darfur will feature five refugee tents providing information about five different genocides: the Holocaust, Armenia, Cambodia, Rwanda/Burundi and Darfur. The Million Bones Project allows persons to create a plaster cast of a bone, which represents a symbol of genocide.

Renowned Scottsdale-based artist Robert Sutz will show his "We Remember: Holocaust Art" exhibit in SCC's Fine Arts Building throughout the week. As a tribute to his father, whose family died in Nazi concentration camps, Sutz creates life masks of Holocaust survivors and Holocaust scenes.

Another exhibit, Sonja's Legacy, will feature watercolor artwork created by Sonja Fischerova while she was at Terezin Concentration Camp during World War II. She died at age 13 in Auschwitz but her paintings were later discovered by a family member in a Prague museum.

Other presentations include a report on domestic terrorism and civil rights from two FBI agents and the Anti-Defamation League and Phoenix Police Department teaming up to share information on hate crimes.

On Saturday, April 13, educators from across the state will attend a day-long training session focused on learning how to use activities to teach about the Holocaust and other genocides. They also will hear from scholar Timothy Kaiser, director of Educational Resources and Wexner Center at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and featured guest Carl Wilkens, the former head of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International in Rwanda. In 1994, he was the only American who chose to remain in the country after the genocide began. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Most of the events will be in the Turquoise Room in SCC's Student Center except for the opening evening event, which will be in SCC's Performing Arts Center.

Teachers seeking to participate in the Saturday training session should contact Kim Klett at klklett(at)mpsaz(dot)org. To register, visit http://www.cvent.com/d/bcq443.

Other sponsors of this event are Mesa Community College and SCC's Phi Theta Kappa.

For the full schedule, visit SCC's home page beginning the week of March 4.
