Hilarious, Intelligent, Provocative, Scorching all describe Robert Dubacs new solo show FREE RANGE THINKING. Combining theater with stand-up, Dubac buckles us up for a fast-paced joy ride over the pot-holed highways of cultural hypocrisy. Riding shotgun with intelligence and absurdity he crashes head first into the barriers of sex, race, religion, politics and the media. FREE RANGE THINKING is a hilarious journey down the rabbit hole of hype and spin in search of the elusive truth. It may be offensive to some but theres laughter for all.
Robert Dubacs FREE RANGE THINKING makes its appearance at The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts for a limited engagement April 4 through 7. Tickets are on sale now online at The Kravis Center Website or at the theatre box office.
In FREE RANGE THINKING Dubac portrays, ROBERT, an everyman who has lost sight of the bigger picture. Hes been bombarded by so much information, white noise and hype and spin he cant remember who he is or what he believes in. Does he have a purpose? Can he think for himself? Is the truth in the details or in the pudding? He hasnt a clue. He racks his brain searching for answers. Instead he finds voices. Inner voices who pull him into a hysterical alternate universe in search of the bigger picture. Its a head trip on a banana peel.
First his VOICE OF REASON convinces him to think outside the box but not without a fight from his INNER IDIOT. Then his COMMON SENSE teaches him critical thought so he can think for himself instead of relying on the Media. Next his INNER CHILD shows him how to use just enough innocence to question authority without getting spanked. Then his INNER A$*#%*E urges him to use both four syllable and four letter words to battle censorship.
Along the way he finds his SCRUPLES who encourage him to open The Door of Truth. But when it hits him in the head he realizes the ultimate paradox - the truth hurts and is funny at the same time.
Before its over his VOICE OF REASON returns to solve partisan politics with an idea so absurd it borders on brilliance but not before his COMMON SENSE levies a Stupid Tax on ignorance while scolding religion for taking the fun out of fundamentalism.
Its all for one and one for all as ROBERTS inner voices take him on a freight train of provocative thought to find the bigger picture and wake up from the coma of modern day life.

Addicted to Show Business, written and performed by Emmy award winning comedian Dave Konig, is a comedic tour-de-force about the one addiction there's no 12-step program for! Opening Wednesday March 13th, 8PM, at the St. Lukes Theater 308 West 46th St. New York City.
In this hilarious - and uplifiting - new show, Konig cons his way into a starring role in a Broadway musical (even though he can't sing or dance), he talks his way into - and out of - hosting a national talk radio show for the Catholic Church (even though he's Jewish), Adam Sandler pushes him on stage, and someone in the audience gets decapitated (really).
Konig's last off Broadway solo show, the critically acclaimed Hebrew School Dropout, was dubbed "laugh out loud funny" by the New York Times. Dave Konig won three Emmy awards for his hilarious Konig Underground reports on the New York TV show Subway Q & A, he hosted the infamous HBO late night comedy series Hardcore TV, and starred on Broadway as the DJ Vince Fontaine in Tommy Tune's hit revival of Grease.

For this study of the global art market in 2012, Artprice has formed an alliance with Artron, the leading information service on the art market in China within the Greater Asia region, in order to provide the best possible overview of the art auction market.
For years, Artprice has taken the utmost interest in collecting the data of the Asian art market and more especially the Chinese market. However, Artprice was missing a key element: the cultural and sociologic analysis that key actor Art Market Monitor of Artron (AMMA) only could provide, according to Thierry Ehrmann, the founder and CEO of Artprice. With the art market now bipolar, entering into a dialogue between East and West has enabled us to come to an unprecedented cross-cultural analysis of the market.
In fact, we are analysing a bipolar art market that has grown in China and the West and at different speeds in different cultural terrains and according to different standards. In comparison with 2011 figures, released by Artprice in its annual report, those of 2012, co-released by Artprice and Artron, show an increase by 6.1%.
There has of course been a globalisation effect due to the dematerialisation of the art market through the Internet and the nomadic nature of collectors. And of course it is clear that bridges have been built between East and West and that the creation, supply and demand of art sometimes overlap at certain points. But we cannot say that art has become totally homogeneous. On the contrary, the art market exacerbates cultural differences by reflecting the gamut of artistic choices. Chinese collectors are not inclined to buy a Western piece of art that they find is too far removed from their cultural parameters. Instead, they prefer traditional styles, ancient calligraphy and, more recently, contemporary "experimental" ink art. Likewise, Western collectors mainly buy the works of artists who speak their language, including some Asian artists who have assimilated Western art history.
So the idea of a globalised art market should be taken with a pinch of salt. In any case, it is a little premature for Western and Chinese readers to be finding their bearings in an analysis of the global art market that is bent on combining information from East and West at all costs. In order to provide a clear and transparent analysis for our entire global readership, this year our report is made up of an introduction that covers the results of art sales around the world in 2012, followed by two distinct chapters. The first of these concentrates exclusively on the art market in the West and Artprice data, while the second focuses on art in China and Artron data. This fertile relationship between Artprice and Artron has led us both to examine our areas of overlap and divergence and to look at the way a new geopolitics is evolving in the art market of the 21st century.

American Quilters Society Selling Egyptian Textile Artwork
The American Quilters Society, headquartered in Paducah, KY, opens a new business channel for the Tentmakers of Cairo at AQS QuiltWeek in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, March 13-16, 2013. AQS will debut 40 new works in the exhibit: Stitch Like an Egyptian by the Tentmakers of Cairo. Each piece in the exhibition was commissioned by the American Quilters Society specifically for this event. All the works were designed and handcrafted by the men on the Chareh El Khiamia in Cairo, Egypt
Tentmaking was once a thriving art form in the Middle East; valued and prized enough to be found in Pharaonic tombs. Yet many economic and social changes in Egypt are driving this beautiful art to the edge of extinction. Decreased tourism and the wide availability of preprinted fabrics have severely undercut demand for these mens work.
The American Quilters Society has signed an agreement making AQS the exclusive representative for exhibitions and sales of the tentmakers work in the United States. Each of the 18 shops in the marketplace of the Tentmakers in Cairo, Egypt, will now create and sell works to the American Quilters Society for distribution in the U.S.
Until now, the Chareh El Khiamia (Market of the Tentmakers) in Cairo was the only place on Earth to enjoy and purchase these masterpieces. Australian curator Jenny Bowker noted: Theyre looking at new marketing systems to keep their families going and keep the tradition alive. Over the past few years, many men have left work as stitchers to find other jobs.
The American Quilters Society has stepped up to help the Tentmakers of Cairo by coordinating the North American tour of the work of the Tentmakers of Cairo. AQS has already purchased over 140 works for display at their AQS QuiltWeek events throughout 2013. During these four international quilt shows, more than 50,000 people will have a chance to enjoy and purchase these exquisite works of art.
Speaking about the news, AQS Chief Operating Officer, Richard Louise shared, Were pleased to hear many men have been rehired due to the American interest. Offering people ways to share their creativity is core to AQSs mission, and allowing them ways to support their family is icing on the cake.
Two of the tentmakers, Tarek Abdelhay and Hosam Hanafy, will accompany the Stitch Like an Egyptian exhibition to share their stories, demonstrate their appliqu technique, and pose for pictures with visitors. Each of the 18 shops is represented with items available for purchase. Works will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Admission to the exhibit is free with admission to AQS QuiltWeek. Hours are Wednesday, March 13 through Friday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One River School of Art & Design Launches 2013 Summer Art and Digital Camp Programs
One River School of Art and Design is accepting enrollments for its art and digital design summer camp programs, which will run from June through August 2013.
The demand in northern New Jersey for creative camps that blend learning with fun, social experiences is huge, and were thrilled to meet this need, says Matt Ross, founder of One River. Since we launched One River last fall, weve developed a leadership position in the art and design education space, so its a natural extension for us to open our doors to summer campers.
One Rivers summer camps will feature over 60 curriculum options, including week-long programs for kids grade K-2 (including Crazy Collages, Mask Making, and Self-Portraiture); grade 3-5 (including Cartooning, Street Art Painting, and Intro to 3-D); and teens (including art classes such as Old Master Drawing, Musically Inspired Painting, and Anime Inspired Art; and digital classes such as Graphic Design, Fashion Design, and Digital Animation).
Also available will be week-long College Prep Portfolio Development Camps for high school students in grades 9 through 12 who seek professional guidance prior to sending in their college applications.
College-bound high school students need innovative tools when applying to Americas top art schools, explains Ross. Our College Prep Portfolio Development Camp will be the first in a series of educational solutions that will give them the competitive edge they need in order to make a memorable and positive impression among admissions officers.
Along with One Rivers camps for young artists, adults will also have a number of week-long summer programs to choose from, including iPad Painting, Intro to Photoshop, Intro to Illustrator, and Digital Photography.
One Rivers younger campers can choose between half day or whole day options when creating their customized programs.
An early registration discount is available for campers who enroll prior to March 31.
